The fountains in Rome are intense. I had seen photos of both the Neptune and Trevi fountains before I visited, but never considered that all these works of art are to be found completely in the open, in the middle of the hustle and bustle of everyday life with the city grown up around them.
Experiencing the feeling of shock from happening across these masterpieces was one of the most enjoyable parts of the trip. We would be walking around taking in the sights and sounds, ducking in and out of shops and markets, then turn an unsuspecting corner and BAM- we suddenly found ourselves a few short meters away from an iconic, jaw dropping work of art unlike anything we had ever seen before.
